The research was conducted to understand the online behavior of Twitter users. According to Diffbot, percent of links shared on Twitter were images, shared were articles, were videos, product, front-page, and status updates.
For two days starting July 10, 2012, Diffbot analyzed over 750 thousand links published on Twitter. Diffbot is a visual robot that analyzes web pages like humans do. Diffbot utilizes natural language processing, computer vision, and other machine learning algorithms to recognize and mine essential items within web pages.
The rest of the links include page errors, audio, chart, recipe, review, job, location, profile, discussion and event. Most shared video sites on Twitter are from Youtube. Most shared images are from Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.
The research also revealed that of the links were in English language, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Russian language. Other languages include Arabic, Malaysian, French German, Dutch, Turkish, Korean, and Italian.
